LIBRARY
The purpose of the school library is to support teaching and learning within the total program of the school. Teacher Librarians collaborate with teachers in planning, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning programs, including integrating Information Communications Technology and Literacy. Library lessons provide students with opportunities to develop information skills and to use these skills competently and with confidence for lifelong learning.
Our library has two trained Teacher Librarians (Ms Phillips – 5 days, Mrs Afonso – 1 day). They cooperatively plan with Staff to program lessons to match the Curriculum and they also purchase and process resources for the whole school maintaining collection management.
CPS Library continues to support classroom learning and Stage topics, always aiming to improve student information skills and knowledge through Stage outcomes.
We follow the CPS School improvement plan by embedding Creative and Critical thinking skills by implementing various 4C strategies. TLs also encourage students to borrow library books regularly, awarding a gold trophy to classes which attain 100% borrowing.
Year 6 students are offered a leadership opportunity to train to become a CPS Library Monitor.
During CPS Library lessons TLs continue to encourage self-directed learners by stating learning intentions and by showing students lesson success criteria. We continue to embed lessons with the 4C transformational learning capabilities: CREATIVITY, CRITICAL REFLECTION, COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION.
K/1/2 classes visit the library for lessons each week. Students participate in shared picture books with a focus on quality literature, CBCA shortlisted books, author studies, joint research, books to match Science, History and Geography topics with information skills and TL designed interactives on the panel board.
Primary students in Years 3,4,5 and 6 classes are allocated a CPS Library GOOGLE CLASSROOM to join. All of their library class lessons are shared there and after students borrow their library books and have a quiet reading time, the TLs model and teach the lessons posted on their GOOGLE classroom.
CPS Library went through a major ‘make-over’ in 2021 – 2022. The renovation project took two years to complete.
This improvement included new wall displays, a new office, a new staff meeting/training room, new carpets and wall covering, 4 panel screens for training and student learning.
Many thanks go to our Principal Mr Mead for having the vision to plan a better library learning environment. It is now a vibrant learning space enjoyed and LOVED by the whole CPS Community.
